Dallas Museum Will Have a New Collection

Standard

Luis Velazquez

Islamic Art is going to be presented in May, 2014, in the Dallas Museum of Art. This is part of a great loan that this American Museum is receiving and that is renewable no less than in 15 years. What is even more amazing is that this is going to be, according to the Museum’s authorities, the largest Islamic Art Collection ever had in the entire United States.

Maxwell Anderson (who is Dallas Museum Director) said that it is an unparallel collection that gives them the opportunity to create new things like a gallery space to show the work made in a Keir Collection and also the museum will add a digital archive of the collection.

What is a Keir Collection?

Edmund de Unger was the one who assembled the pieces that included textile things, carpets, rock crystal, ceramics, works on paper and metal works.

Dallas Museum of Art will have the chance to show and explained through the artistic things it will have the story of a culture that has begun many centuries ago and that probably it is still unknown for many people. So, probably in May people in the United States will see a different part of the Islamic art and history.

MOCA’s New Museum Director

Standard

Luis Velazquez

Phillipe Vergne is the name of the new director of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). Vergnes was unanimously elected and the announcement was officially made those recent days of January. Besides, Vergnes is replacing Jeffrey Deitch who resigned on September 2013.

Dia Art Foundation in New York was the place in which Phillipe Vergne was working before being named the new MOCA’s Director. Through a statement, Vergne said how honor he was feeling for being elected to occupy this difficult, but amazing place.

2008 was a difficult year for the museum because it had to be closed. However, a millionaire donation was made by Eli Broad, so the museum could open again, but things in the contemporary museum are not that easy and that is why the previous director resigned two years before his contract ends.

Strength, knowledge and more is what Phillipie Vergne is expected to give in the Museum of Contemporary Art. “I am honored to be joining MOCA. I have admired its collection and programs throughout my career and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead this great institution into its next phase and to return to Los Angeles with my family to my wife’s native city.”, Phillipe Vergne said in a statement.

Folk Art Museum Building Is Going To Be Demolish

Standard

Luis Velazquez

Museumof Modern Art (MoMA) is planning to expand its territory and as part of this planning is the demolition of the Folk Art Museum Building that has been part of the museum since many years ago. However, it has become important for the MoMa to expand in order to offer more things.

Architects are in charge of this new restructuration and it was through a press release where the announcement was made. In this press statement it was said that those plans are “the result of a diligent and thoughtful six-month study and design process that explored all options for the site”.

Demolitions are not the only thing that MoMA’s owner are going to do, it is also expected that a tower near to the museum would be taken in order to continue with the expansion fo the museum.

Free Spaces is what it is expected to have in those new places that are going to be taken and demolished. So, if you were thinking it was not that good probably this would make you change your mine. It has become really difficult finding free museums or art collections in the US, but that is what it is trying to be changed in MoMa.

Museum’s Social Opportunities

Standard

Museums all over the world and all kinds of museums no matter the topic it works have the opportunity of giving people some different ways to learn, it means that museums actually have a social compromise and they all should be conscious of it.

Poverty is one of the most relevant issues in which museums can help. According to the Museum Association (MA), museums in general can play such an important role in the eternal sight against this sad situation. One of the ways, according to the MA, is creating a responsibility through engagement with the disadvantaged people.

Museums Association expressed in a statement that: “Museums can serve as agents of inclusion, giving people a sense of belonging to communities and to wider society and therefore less marginalized – all factors that can help people to take steps out of poverty.”

Museum of Modern Art (in the United States), Louvre Museum (in Paris), Prado’s Museum (Madrid), the British Museum (England), the Cairo’s Museum (El Cairo) and a big etcetera of museums should know about this idea of helping others with all the knowledge it might be in there. It seems to be really important that all those museums all over the world could help in the way the Museums Association is saying to.

The Mexican artist Frida Kahlo was such an important painter not only in her country, but in the whole world due to her fantastic work made through her different paints that express lots of her life.

In the Naval Training Center at Liberty Station, San Diego, there is an exhibition of more than 123 replicas of the real paints made by Kahlo. The idea is having the replicas just as she could make it during her life.

Mexican art in the Unites States

Standard

Luis Velazquez

Sometimes people get focused just in the political issues that come every day and forget about all the great things that exist out of those things. Art can be an example.

In the United States, in the Mexican Museum, there is a marvelous collection from the Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada. All his paints (or at least the one from the permanent collection of the Museum) talks about the national items coming from Mexico and are all expressed in a very colorful way.

It would be great if all of us just forget about the “reality” for a while and try to see further and an amazing way to do it is through art. So let’s give art a chance and enjoy paintings like the ones from Mexico that have lots of things to say and express.
