Phillipe Vergne is the name of the new director of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). Vergnes was unanimously elected and the announcement was officially made those recent days of January. Besides, Vergnes is replacing Jeffrey Deitch who resigned on September 2013.
Dia Art Foundation in New York was the place in which Phillipe Vergne was working before being named the new MOCA’s Director. Through a statement, Vergne said how honor he was feeling for being elected to occupy this difficult, but amazing place.
2008 was a difficult year for the museum because it had to be closed. However, a millionaire donation was made by Eli Broad, so the museum could open again, but things in the contemporary museum are not that easy and that is why the previous director resigned two years before his contract ends.
Strength, knowledge and more is what Phillipie Vergne is expected to give in the Museum of Contemporary Art. “I am honored to be joining MOCA. I have admired its collection and programs throughout my career and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead this great institution into its next phase and to return to Los Angeles with my family to my wife’s native city.”, Phillipe Vergne said in a statement.
