There is an exhibition at the British Museum which shows that domestic life in the Roman Empire was similar to how we live now.  “Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum” contains what was left after the Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD79.

The ashes of Mount Vesuvius buried streets and houses that were encapsulated for almost 1700 years. The exhibition has a double portrait which shows an insight into the life of Pompeii´s citizens; the double portrait was placed in a house of a bakery owner and is one of its kind founded in the area.

To prepare the exhibition took five years and visitors will see 400 objects that focus on the lives and death of the citizens of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
